Professional Core Aeration for Denver Lawns

Stage 1 water restrictions mean every drop counts. Core aeration breaks up Colorado clay so your limited watering days actually reach the roots, not the runoff.

Core aerator pulling soil plugs from a Denver residential lawn

Stop Watering a Lawn That Can't Absorb It

Denver clay compacts hard, and 2026's Stage 1 drought restrictions mean you only get two watering days a week. That's not enough for water to penetrate a compacted lawn. Most of it runs off before it reaches the roots. Aeration is the fastest, highest-leverage fix.

Water That Actually Reaches the Roots

With only 2 watering days per week under Denver's 2026 drought restrictions, every drop has to count. Aeration creates thousands of channels for water to soak straight to the root zone instead of puddling or running off.

Break Through Colorado Clay

Colorado's heavy clay packs down tight. A quarter-inch of compaction is enough to starve roots of air and nutrients. Core aeration pulls 2 to 3 inch plugs, giving roots room to breathe and expand.

Deeper Roots, Better Drought Tolerance

Deeper roots reach moisture lower in the soil profile. Your lawn handles heat, dormancy, and water rationing with less visible stress and a faster recovery when conditions improve.

The Perfect Seedbed for Overseeding

Aeration and overseeding are better together. The plugs create ideal seed-to-soil contact, and new grass thickens thin spots while the soil is freshly opened.

“So glad I called these guys this year. My yard was in need of some proper aeration and everything about this company was simple and easy. They communicated with me so well and I knew exactly when they were on the way. The service was quick and efficient. I'll definitely use them again in the future.”

“I was able to book my appointment online for an aeration and it was booked quickly. I appreciated the reminders the day before and day of, got updates on when they were coming and when the job was completed — pretty cool features. The team aerated our yard quickly and we're happy with the job they did! Will look to A Cut Above for our next aeration or other yard project we need help with.”

“I have had my lawn aerated for the last couple years. This year they performed aeration and fertilization. They gave me an accurate window of time, showed up within that window, and sent me alerts of their arrival so I was not home at the time. Service was reasonably priced.”

Everything You Need to Know

How much does aeration cost in Denver?

Single-pass core aeration starts at $75 for lawns up to 5,000 sq ft. Double-pass is $140. Our aeration + overseeding bundle is $200. Larger lots and acreage are quoted individually. Fill out the form for your exact price.

What's the difference between single-pass and double-pass aeration?

Single-pass pulls a standard density of plugs and works for most lawns. Double-pass runs the aerator at 90 degrees twice for roughly 2x plug density. We recommend double-pass for heavy clay, high-traffic yards, or lawns that haven't been aerated in 2+ years.

Should I aerate in spring, fall, or both?

Both is ideal in Denver. Colorado State University Extension recommends spring aeration specifically to reduce thatch and improve oxygen and water uptake during drought, which is exactly our situation in 2026. Fall aeration (September to October) gives the lawn a head start on next spring's green-up. Many of our customers aerate twice a year for heavy clay.

Do you mark my sprinkler heads?

We avoid the lawn perimeter where sprinkler heads typically sit. For heads in the middle of the lawn, we ask that you flag them before we arrive (flags are cheap at any hardware store). If a head gets damaged during service, we repair or replace it at no charge.

Why do you use core aeration instead of liquid or spike?

Core aeration physically pulls plugs of soil, which is the only method that truly relieves clay compaction. Spike aeration pushes soil sideways and can actually increase compaction over time. Liquid aeration works on sandy soils but doesn't meaningfully break through Colorado clay. For Denver lawns, core aeration is the evidence-backed choice.

Does aeration help during watering restrictions?

Yes. Compacted soil causes water to run off or pool instead of reaching the roots. Aeration creates channels for water to penetrate straight to the root zone. Under Denver's 2026 Stage 1 restrictions (2 watering days per week, drought surcharges), aeration is one of the highest-ROI investments a homeowner can make to keep a lawn alive on limited water.

Should I bundle aeration with overseeding?

If the lawn has thin spots, bare patches, or winter damage, yes. Aeration opens the soil and creates ideal seed-to-soil contact, so new grass germinates faster and takes root stronger when seeded directly after aeration. Our aeration + overseeding bundle is $200 and includes a double-pass plus our Kentucky bluegrass blend.

What areas do you serve?

The entire Denver Metro: Arvada, Aurora, Boulder, Centennial, Denver, Englewood, Highlands Ranch, Lakewood, Littleton, Thornton, Westminster, and 15+ more cities. Fill out the form and we'll confirm service to your address.
